Recently I had a friend ask me, “How can I mix my husband’s inherited antique pieces of furniture with my own furniture?”
My answer is simple: you get creative!
Not too long ago, my mom passed her dining room furniture down to me – a table that seats 8 and a China cabinet. As thrilled as I was to have these family antiques in my home, they just did not go with my aesthetic. The table was a dark heavy piece that had been well loved over the years, and it had the marks and scratches to prove it. Oh, and did I mention both pieces had some water damage?
I had my work cut out for me, but I knew what to do to make a spot for these antiques in my home. I called on the expertise of some vendors I frequently work with for my client projects. They refinished and painted both pieces, and they’re exactly what I envisioned.
